The Future
I believe we determine the future. Some of us determine the future. Those with power, those with control, those who write much of history. The study of history, in all its forms, is essential to understanding the future. Power moves at the top of cycles. And these cycles repeat themselves, with different names, and often in response to calls by human and nature to adapt.
I am a pull Futurist. It is my responsibility to imagine, ask, listen, articulate. To learn what is needed, to call for what is necessary, and to sell a vision of equitable futures. To use what power and influence and magic I can channel from others—my small part to convince and pull power into a righteous path of golden, sustainable futures. In this, I am not alone. I do not suppose to have the right, the white man’s burden, the voice or hand strong enough to determine what may come.
I know the comforting disease of nostalgia. I know the past informs the future, but does not predict it. That is up to collective action. I write and speak of the moral conflicts, the topics and uncomfortable truths so often avoided by men living ahead of the present.
